WPPA Return to Play Update - June 25 2020

Dear WPPA Families,

The return to playing ball is here.  Thank you to everyone in the community for the support and commitment.  We have around 1,500 players signed up to be a part of our upcoming season.  WPPA is proud to be able to provide baseball and softball at all levels in a safe and exciting manner.

Below is a matrix for each age level and the status of play for each group.  As mentioned in the last community update, each level has its own unique challenges hence our different approach to accommodate those needs.

I don’t often publicly tout our board to the community as each of us volunteered to take on this role, but as a completely volunteer group from top to bottom – I cannot express my gratitude enough for what it has taken to pull this off.  Each year, months go into planning our season, and in a short time all of these dedicated board members have re-planned a “second season” for this Spring/Summer league under challenging and pressing circumstances.  If you see a board member, please give them a socially distanced pat on the back!

A few notes about the matrix and returning to play:

  • The dates mentioned for start of games and practices are exactly that – a start date.  It doesn’t mean your player will have a game or practice that day – but will soon thereafter.  Your coach will provide your specific schedule to you.
  • The final game play schedule for baseball is being ironed out for all age levels (except Liberty which is all set to go).  Once the schedule is ready, we will get it loaded into the system and your coaches will let you know it is available to download from the site.
  • All of this is predicated on getting to Phase 4 in Chicago and WPPA receiving permits from the Chicago Park District.  Phase 4 is supposed to happen on June 26, 2020.  Assuming it does and permits come as expected, full steam ahead.  In the event that government and health care officials push us backwards in phase (i.e. back to Phase 3) at any time, the season will be canceled.
  • We will publish our “Safe Return to Game Play” guidelines by the end of June for all families to review.
  • If you haven’t already, please sign the return to play waiver located here.  This is required in order to be able to participate.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Enjoy the beautiful weather knowing that baseball and softball games at WPPA are on the horizon!

Stay Safe and continue to support one another as well as our local businesses.

-Ross Kerr

WPPA President

P.S.  We are in need of 2 Rookie replacement coaches.  Please reach out to our Rookie Commissioner (Gabe Morales) at if you are interested.
