WPPA Launches New Website for 2020 Fall Softball Registration
Visit the new WPPA Website at www.wppachicago.org
WPPA is very excited for the launch of our new website and experience! Our existing League Athletics platform will be retired by Sports Engine in the near future, requiring WPPA to change platforms soon. After extensive research and comparison, it was an easy call: TeamSnap offered the best overall functionality and ease of operation for our volunteer board, coaches and parents, many of who are already familiar with TeamSnap.
Here is how the website transition will work:
The new website - with the new URL www.wppachicago.org - will start hosting only WPPA's 2020 Fall Softball Offering through October.
All 2020 Summer Softball and 2020 Summer/Fall Baseball will continue to be hosted here at www.wppabaseball.com.
Following the end of the 2020 Summer/Fall baseball season in October, this website will be retired and WPPA's entire online presence will migrate to the new website for 2021.
With the move to TeamSnap, WPPA has updated capabilities that will allow for better communication, registration, game management and navigation. It also represents a shift to a new URL -- wppachicago.org -- which is inclusive of both softball and baseball under one umbrella. A huge thank you to our WPPA Website Committee that included Chairperson Jamie Schupp, David Kunkle, Steve Marsey, Jay Mitchell, Mike O'Shea and Jim Volkens. If you have any feedback or suggestions on how to make the new experience better, please let us know at
2021 WPPA Travel Baseball Tryouts - Sign-Up Slots Available Now
I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend full of softball and baseball. It was wonderful to finally see all aspects of our league in full swing.
As crazy as it might seem, it is time for 2021 Travel Baseball tryouts (note that Travel Softball tryouts will be announced soon). The Travel Baseball tryouts will take place on August 10th and 11th at Welles Park.
At this juncture, those guidelines will not impact our WPPA House Baseball and House Softball leagues. However, more than ever, it underscores the importance that all families, players, umpires and spectators MUST to adhere to the WPPA's Safe Return to Play Guidelines. These are designed to help keep our community safe and healthy while allowing us to continue to play and be “together”. As a community, it is up to all of us to ensure everyone around us is in compliance. Don't be afraid to speak up if you see someone not adhering to what is outlined in our guidelines.
The disappointing news is these revised State of Illinois Youth Sports Guidelines will impact our All-Star Travel Baseball and Softball teams. As of August 15, 2020, those teams will not be permitted to play in tournaments (either in Illinois or out of state). These teams can play in any “exhibition” games against other teams within the city of Chicago, but nothing against teams outside the boundaries of the city. This is unfortunate, but we all know the impacts of COVID are ever-changing and the top priority is to keep our greater community safe.
The WPPA Board will continue to monitor government, health and expert information and we will adjust accordingly as a community.
We appreciate everyone's hard work and dedication to get us to this point, and hope that everyone remains safe and healthy. See you on the diamonds!
