WPPA Frequently Asked QuestionsQ. Is my child in the league?A. All returning players are guaranteed a spot in the league if they register on-line or on the desgnated date for returning players. Additionally any new player's name that was added to a league sign-up sheet at walk-up registration and was not given any indication that the player will be wait listed and all fees are paid and a copy of a birth certificate was provided, will receive a roster spot this summer. If you mailed in or faxed your form or your child was placed on the waiting list at walk-up registration, we will call and advise you if your child has been placed on a roster. Q. When will I be notified about my child's team assignment?A. In mid-march, coaches conduct player drafts. This information must be entered into our database, rosters compiled and then distributed to the coaches with contact information. Your child's coach will then contact you. You should not expect a call from the coach until approximately the first week of April. We will soon post on the website a specific date by which time you should have received a call from your child's coach based on the league in which your child is enrolled. We will not respond to requests for team assignment information prior to that date. Q. When does the season start?A. For the Junior, Minor, Major and Senior leagues practice games are played on April 25th and 26th. The regular season games start May 1st. Your child's coach will provide schedules to you. The Rookie league (5-6 year olds) doesn't start its season until mid-May. The Liberty league (15-18 year olds) doesn't start its season until June. Q. When and where are practices held?A. The coaches schedule practices - not the league. Your child's coach will inform you when and where his/her practice will be held. Due to the limited availability of fields, coaches often must schedule practices wherever they can find a field. Therefore, do not expect to be practicing at Welles Park. Coaches are required to practice at least once a week and no more than two times a week while school is in session.
Q. How many games a week will my child play?A. Scheduling is always dependent upon the number of teams in the league and field availability. Generally, your child will play twice a week, usually over the weekend (Friday - Monday). Keep in mind that make-up games for rainouts may result in a child playing more than twice a week. Q. Will my child get to play in every game?A. The WPPA is an instructional baseball league. All children must play a minimum of three or four defensive innings depending on the league in the field each game and every child bats throughout the entire game. Q. What kind of equipment should my child have?A. Your child must have a baseball glove (preferably leather). Players may also, bring a pair of baseball cleats (no metal cleats except in Liberty league), batting glove(s) and a bat. An athletic cup for boys in the Minor division and higher is recommended and required for any boy that plays catcher. The WPPA will provide all other equipment, including uniform jerseys, caps and pants. Q. Can I still sponsor a team?A. Absolutely! Click on the "Become a Sponsor" page from the homepage. Q. I still have questions, how can I contact the WPPA?A. The best way to contact us is to use the "contact us" button on the website and send an email. |
