Rookie League: Ages 5 - 6

The Rookie League is a T-ball league and they use a safety ball. The teams have 16 players on the roster. The diamonds have a 60-foot base path. All players must play at least 3 innings in the field. Everyone bats. The games are 5 innings in length. The defensive team is allowed 12 players in the field and 2 coaches in the field. Normal baseball rules are altered to promote learning and safety.

The Rookie league starts playing their games in mid-May, which is later than the other divisions. The season ending picnic is generally a Saturday in late July.  

All games are played at Welles Park on the diamond along Lincoln Avenue across from the Sulzer Library. Games are played on Saturday and Sunday. There are no playoffs. All children are awarded a trophy at the picnic.
